Tonga offers world class waves all year long, with 2 different seasons: from november to march, with swells coming from the north and from april to october with the swells coming from the south.
From november to march the coastline is hitten by the North Pacific swells, the same that pump huge waves to Hawaii; during this period anyway also the South Pacific cyclones produce consistent surf conditions in Tonga.
There are four right handers and one left in Ha'atafu, with a series of off-shore reefs that work perfectly during this period: E.T.'s, Loonies, Sharkies, Lighthouse, Pass Right, and Razors are just some of the spots of the area, and most of them can be very often absolitly perfect! East and south-east wind blows constantly in summer, but can change due to storms arrival during the cyclones season. Basically there will always be at least some spots with perfect waves conditions and off-shore wind! And the Resort speed boat is always available to reach the spots out of the coral barrier. ..
From april to october the deep Tasmanian sea depressions, togheter with the New Zealand and Antarctic low pressures, generate clean and powerful swells that easily activate five of the most famous lefts in Ha'atafu: The Pass, Motels, Corners, The Bowl and Fishtraps.
All the spots are just in front of the Resort or maximum 100 meters away, and you can reach them just paddling through the lagoon.
