SURFING IN FUERTEVENTURA
Canary Islands, Fuerteventura
The Canary Islands are also known as the European Hawaii, thanks to their strategic position in the Atlantic Ocean, receive good swells all year long, bigger in winter, from September to April and smaller in summer, from May to August .
The north coast of Fuerteventura is called the North Shore, just like the north coast of Oahu, Hawaii, the name has not been given by joke, in this stretch of coast there are numerous quality reef spots, some with more "soft" waves, suitable for beginners and intermediates, and others with radical and tubular waves, well-known to experts, but also giant waves where it is possible to tow-in.
In addition to the numerous reef breaks, Fuerteventura is home to various beach breaks that provide good surfing throughout the year, even when reef spots are too small to be surfed.
The water temperature is mild in winter (maximum 3.2mm wetsuit is required) and in the summer you can surf in boardshort or with a short wetsuit.
