Pacific swells along with constant offshore wind and little crowding in the water make Nicaragua a surf destination with waves for everyone and of the highest quality.
The entire Pacific coast of Nicaragua is exposed to Antarctic swells that reach their maximum strength in the months between April and October.
What characterizes Surfing in Nicaragua is definitely the constant OffShore, the little accessibility of the spots (a guide and appropriate means such as a 4×4 and a boat are needed) that determines the little crowding and the amount of waves for everyone, often beach breaks suitable even for intermediate and advanced.
From November through March, however, smaller waves can be found, but still with off shore winds, making for great fun.
The San Juan Del Sur area, south coast bordering Costa Rica, certainly is to date the most famous for surfing, where we find world-class spots such as the outer reef of Popoyo, Colorado, Vera Cruz, etc.
