South Malé is one of the most famous surfing areas in the Maldives, located about 30 minutes by boat from Malé International Airport. Compared to the reefs of North Malé, South Malé Atoll is more sheltered and provides consistent conditions between April and October, with the best surf season from May to September, when powerful southeast swells hit the reefs.
