South Malé is one of the most famous surfing areas in the Maldives, located about 30 minutes by boat from Malé International Airport. This atoll offers world-class waves and ideal conditions for all levels, from beginners to advanced surfers. Compared to the reefs of North Malé, South Malé Atoll is more sheltered and provides consistent conditions between April and October, with the best surf season from May to September, when powerful southeast swells hit the reefs.
At the beginning and end of the season, the waves are smaller and more manageable, perfect for intermediate surfers who want to improve their skills in warm tropical waters. There are also options for surf schools, with flat reefs or softer sections depending on the tide and swell direction.
