Nestled in beautiful Playa Avellanas, just a 20-minute drive from the bustling center of Tamarindo, this is the perfect surfing destination in Costa Rica.

Several spots are easily accessible on foot, hidden gems such as Playa Langosta, Playa Grande, and Playa Negra are just minutes from the camp. It doesn’t matter you are a complete beginner or an experienced surfer, every day we will take you surfing at the best spots in the area, depending on your level, wind and sea conditions.

Tamarindo is famous for being the entertainment capital of the Guanacaste region. If you feel like partying, the camp offers a shuttle service so you don’t have to worry about driving after a few drinks.

How to Get There:

Costa Rica is easily accessible from several Italian cities such as Milan and Rome, with international flights. In approx. 8 hours flight you can land at San Jose’ International Airport (SJO), Costa Rica, about 5 hours from the camp by car; or land at Liberia Airport (1.5hrs from the camp by car).

From the airport:

Surfcamp shuttle: We offer shuttle service from Tamarindo, San Jose and Liberia airports.

Rental car: We recommend renting a car to get around Costa Rica.

Cab: Getting to surfcamp by cab from Tamarindo airport is convenient and fast, costing around US$10.

Public transportation: From the 7/10 bus terminal in San Jose, ask for the direct bus to Tamarindo operated by the Alfaro bus company (tickets start at $10). Once in Tamarindo, take the bus to Playa Avellanas (prices start from $35). The camp is a 10-minute walk away.

Health Care and Documents:

Italian citizens do not need a special visa to travel to Costa Rica. We recommend making several copies of your passport, in case the original is lost. Both public and private hospital facilities are of a good standard; however, we recommend traveling with international travel insurance.
