The season for this area of the Central Atolls is always from March to October, as in the Male Atolls.
On average, Laamu Atoll spots are exposed from south to north/east creating an ideal situation with sheltered spots for each wind direction. Sometimes the wind from the east comes straight in, but spots like Ying and Yang hold up well.
The spots on Thaa Atoll, which are more exposed than the other atolls, usually experience the power of swells from the south/southeast, which is why they tend to be larger. This area is chosen based on wind conditions due to the exposure, which is likely to make them a bit windy.
This area is generally uncrowded, uncrowded surf is almost assured!
Meemu Atoll ‘s spots are east-facing, generally less affected by swells, so to go when there is a measured condition. They are very close together and there is often always a right and a left.
Spot Area Central Atolls (Meemu, Thaa, Laamu)
Muli Inside & Outside (Meemu) Muli Inside/F1 – A very fast right, with long, hollow, barreling walls, can be shallow, but still with a safe finish. Very well protected from southerly winds, needs more powerful swells to function. Muli Outside/Mushrooms – Generally takes more swell , good with SW winds, right with long walls, easy exit from corner | ![]() |
Veyvah (Meemu) Perfect left with long wall. Easy start with several maneuvering options given the length of the wave . Not too strong – great fun. | ![]() |
Ying Yang (Laamu) One of the most consistent waves in the area mostly with swell from the southeast. This right wave has a very fast inside with deep tubes and little water , while the outside breaks on a lot of water for safer surfing. | ![]() |
